If they can go for a realistic visual style all those years ago with games like reunion, tc and ap surely they can do it all these years later with magnitudes more horsepower at their disposal. IMO the reason we saw the Borderlands visuals in the first place was to compensate for the lack of power on the consoles. What you say is very true but in saying that i'd much prefer to see the visuals in tc/ap rather than anything Borderlands related. But -as I said- if I have too choose between playability and hyper-realism, my choice goes to playability.īut - everyone is naturally free to gives his/hers/its opinion.

If you are the kind of person that likes hyper-realism I can imagine that you are a bit (or very) disappointed. I think they found a nice balance between visuals and smooth movement. And while it is more "sketchy" it is far more easy to see what is going on. The thing I like about this "borderland-style" is that it does not tax the eye too much. Let me put it this way - if ultra-realism is not possible (because of demands on hardware) I think it is better to switch to a eye-pleasing compromise. Personally - I like the borderland-style graphics.

Who wants to play a super-realistic game when you need a nitrogen-cooled processor with 16 cores at 10 GHz to run it? (well - a bit over the top, but I hope you know what I mean). Like I said - pushing for hyper-realism and at the same time keep track of all ships, economy and all other interaction would demand a unrealistically powerful computer system. That means there has to be made a compromise between the amount realism and playability. Well do not forget the X series has a LOT more background processes running than a "normal" FPS game. I was hoping they would push the envelope as far as graphics go and to see the cartoonish style both saddens and surprises me. It is a clear departure from the (more) realistic presentation in X3/TC/AP.įirst thing that struck me when he left the ship and entered the station was Borderlands and TBH i was extremely disappointed.
